Gregorian Chant Workshop

for Young People

Ages 9 to 18

This summer, give your sons and daughters an opportunity to discover the beauty of Gregorian Chant and develop a skill that will last a lifetime! In just five days, the young participants in the Chant Camp @ Ave Maria will learn:

  • Vocal Technique

  • Latin pronunciation

  • Gregorian Chant

  • Sacred Choral Music

  • Traditional Hymnody & Descants

 

Each day of the workshop is focused on daily worship and nurturing strong Catholic friendships through:

  • Sung Mass

  • Sung Vespers

  • Sacred Arts Activities

  • Good, clean, play time!

Chant Camp Faculty

 

MICHAEL OLBASH returns to Ave Maria after leading a successful chant workshop for children as part of the 2015 Musica Sacra Florida conference at Ave Maria University.  A Catholic father of four young singers, Mr. Olbash holds music degrees from St. Joseph’s College and Harvard University, and was the 2014 recipient of the Choirmaster Prize and the S. Lewis Elmer Award from the American Guild of Organists. He is the Choirmaster & Organist at St. Adelaide Parish in Peabody, Massachusetts, where he

directs numerous choral ensembles, including chant and polyphony scholae for the weekly Traditional Latin High Mass. He is also directs the chorus at the Immaculate Heart of Mary School in Still River, MA, where he frequently accompanies the Slaves of the Immaculate Heart of Mary for daily traditional Latin Masses.

 

ANNE NYAGA serves on the music faculty at both the Regina Coeli Academy in Abington, Pennsylvania, and the Regina Angelorum Academy in Ardmore, PA.  She is a graduate of Ave Maria University with a degree in Music and a minor in Latin and Greek.  Born in Kenya, and fluent in several languages, including Swahili, Kikuyu, and French, Ms. Nyaga has a passion for languages and the connections between language and music, particularly Gregorian Chant.

Camp Schedule

Tuesday (8/1) through Friday (8/4)

Chant camp meets each day from 9:30-3:30

​

Saturday (8/5)

Extraordinary Form (EF) Mass from 12-1 PM, with practice at 11 AM

​

Sunday (8/6)

Novus Order (NO) Mass from 10-11 AM, with practice at 9 AM

Cost: $60.00/child; $100.00/family

​

To register please print and fill out the forms below and send both forms to the address below, along with a check for the registration fee made out to Ave Maria Parish. Please write "Chant Camp" in the memo field.
